What we offer

Malvern Tigers Basketball Club provides an opportunity for around 500 children per season to participate in a positive team environment. We cater for both boys and girls aged between 7 – 18 years with any skill level, including those who have never played basketball before. The Club's main objective is to offer basketball in a fun and safe environment where winning is not the most important aspect.  We hope to foster an enjoyment of basketball, while developing a sense of team spirit, positive self-esteem and good sports behaviour.

We also cater for older ex-players and parents of current players through our teams in Women's, Men's, Mixed and Over 35 competitions.

When and where the teams play

Most Malvern Tigers teams are currently entered in the Waverley Basketball Association (WBA) Domestic Competitions, and one team plays in the Hawthorn Basketball Association. WBA conducts two seasons, Summer (school term 4 & 1) and Winter (school term 2 & 3).  All matches are played at the six court WBA Satdium on the corner of Batesford Road and Power Avenue, Chadstone.  Melway Ref 60 H1

Admission to the venue is $2.00 for players and spectators. Non playing children U12 are free.

For example: to play Under 14’s in the 2009 Winter season the player must be 13 or younger on the 31st December 2008.  To play Under 14’s in the 2009 Summer season the player must be 13 or younger on the 30th June 2009.

Fees

Fees are assessed prior to the start of each new season and reflect the cost of insurance, coaching expenses, court hire, player registration, match costs and administration.  Fees are detailed on the Registration Form and can be accessed from the Downloads section. A discount applies for multiple players from the one family.

Players will not be placed in teams until fees have been paid.

Uniform

Club uniforms are available for purchase through the Uniform Coordinator (see Contact Us section for contact details). Malvern Tiger’s compulsory uniform consists of black and yellow club shorts ($40.00) and singlet ($40.00). If shorts and tops are purchased together the total cost is $80.00. An optional black hoodie ($40.00) and club cap ($10.00) are also available.

Please note:
If a player’s size is not currently in stock, orders can take up to six weeks to arrive.  Please speak to your Team Manager if you need to borrow gear until new stock is available. Allocation of numbers on singlets is dependent upon availability and existing numbers in use.

Mouth Guards are strongly recommended for all players.

Age Group Coordinators

If you would like further information about joining the Malvern Tigers Basketball Club contact the relevant Age Group Coordinator. Email and telephone details are on the Contact Us page.

Team Managers

The Team Manager is one of the most important positions in the Club as they enable the smooth functioning of the team during the season. Parents can volunteer to be Team Manager by indicating it on their child's season registration form. If no volunteers are forthcoming for a particular team the Club will arbitrarily appoint one or more families to take on the role or to find a replacement. A document outlining the duties of the Team Manager can be downloaded here .

Membership Application

Children interested in playing with the Malvern Tigers should download the latest season Membership Application form from the Downloads section and forward to the address on the form.
